History & Restoration
1864: The Sterling Mountain Railroad Legacy
In the mid-1800s, the Sterling Iron and Railway Company laid tracks that would transform this region—linking the Erie Railroad near Sloatsburg to the Scott Mine at Sterling Lake. As noted in The Townsends – Early Developers of Tuxedo by Doris Crofut, the company’s goal was ambitious: to move beyond local production and export raw ore to Pennsylvania.
Today, fragments of that vision were discovered on the Audio/Video Center property.

1900’s: Table Rock Estate
The property spans 249 acres and was once a part of the historic Table Rock Estate in Eagle Valley. Construction of the 2,000-acre Table Rock Estate began around 1900 under William Pierson Hamilton, great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton.
According to the Historical Society of Rockland County, stone for the estate was sourced directly from the property. There is evidence of quarrying on the northeast corner of the property. A stone bridge on-site, likely dating to around 1900, was first built to transport materials during the building of the historic manor on Table Rock Estate. Today, fragments of that vision were discovered on the Audio/Video Center property.

Today: Bridge Restoration
Built around 1900, the stone bridge on the property stood as a quiet monument to the region’s craftsmanship and history. Rather than replace it, we chose to restore and strengthen the bridge—preserving its original character while adapting it for modern use.
